photo post

So, not a lot to report in the past few days. Bailey is growing like a weed, but we haven't had her in to get weighed since last weekend. Her itchies are all cleared up and she is almost done her pills. Her ears are cleared up, but I'm going to do her drops for another couple of days just in case.

Here's some pics from the past couple of days :) Bailey and Rockey are starting to get along a little better - sometimes. Mostly when she is not in his face, or barking, or trying to play, or near his food. I've caught them snuggling a few times though! :)

more vet trips - photos when i get home

Bailey is allergic to fleas. This diagnosis came after she was suddenly covered in itchy, dry scabs and scratching herself to the point of bald patches. Mom took her in yesterday morning while I was at work, and the result was antihistamines and a treatment with Advantage 10 (which didn't work when we gave it to Rockey, but the Revolution worked for him yet didn't work for her, so we'll see), and instructions to make sure she is treated for fleas every month for the rest of her life. If a single flea bites her she will break out into the rash again. Poor thing. The pills seem to work pretty well though, despite making her a little bit groggy. She also still has a little bit of an ear infection, likely leftover from before (we likely should have done drops for longer than the one week they were prescribed for). So she has more drops. She's gained another pound, and is now up to 9.5lbs!

Here's a pic - Bailey loves her monkey!

milestones, tricks and other fun things

I know I just updated last night but today was a pretty big day; I had to go out and do some running around, so I put Bailey in her kennel with a Kong I had stuffed with canned dog food and popped in the freezer (the vet recommended this, so long as I didn't give her too much - wet food can upset puppies' stomachs). She didn't even notice I had left! Due to stupidity with Metro Transit, I was away far longer than I had expected - almost 6 hours. I asked the neighbours when I got home and they said they didn't hear a peep from her, and upon checking her crate there were no accidents! I took her for a little walk as soon as I got in, and she whined the whole way. She tends to whine and cry and carry on when we come home, so I think it's happy, excited whining rather than sad, as her little tail is going a mile a second.

When we got home from her walk, I went to give her one of the new chew treats I got her today. I've been trying (to no avail) to teach her the command "paw" for over a week now, and this afternoon when I got home and asked for her paw, she gave it to me on the first try! Needless to say, I am one proud mommy!

Anyway, here's some pics. First, her new toy I got her - a sock monkey to match the ones Matt and I made with Jenn and Chris a few months back!

And one of her laying in the sun this morning before I went out. I can already see how much she has grown since we got her!

Bye for now!

there's a monster in my living room

So it's been a few days since I've updated; schoolwork has been taking up what little free time I've got outside of work. We've been staying with my parents so that Bailey is not home alone all day while I am at work, and it's going pretty well for the most part. She is starting to ignore Rockey and he is getting more tolerant of her being in the same room as him.

Bailey is growing like a little weed! I had her in for a needle on Friday and she had gone from 7.5 to 8 lbs in one week. Well, I had her in with me on Monday to pick up a can of flea spray to do the apartment and they weighed her again...she gained half a pound in 2 days! She is also starting to find her voice, and was baying with the beagle mix next door to my parents and running around the yard last night! She's still afraid whenever another dog howls though!

She's gotten into an interesting habit. She will run around my parents' place and gather up all of her toys, and all or Rockey's, and put them in her bed. She then tries to lay in the bed and gets mad when she won't fit!

We got home this afternoon after a few days at the house, and Bailey has promptly found her favorite spot on the couch:

And in case you can't tell, yes, her front legs are out straight in front of her and up in the air :P

ear drops, or: the end of the world as we know it

Ever try to put ear drops in a squirming, crying, biting mass of ears, claws and teeth that is a 9-week-old beagle puppy?

Let's just say, I wouldn't wish that upon the most loathed of my enemies. The vet made it look easy, and the first couple times were not terrible. She whined a bit but all went reasonably well. The past couple of days, though, I've had to get my dad to hold her while I put them in, and he's ended up with a fair number of puppy-induced battle scars to show for it. The world was apparently caving in or something.

Anyway, only a few photos tonight. My editing software is being finicky and Bailey has made it clear that it is most certainly bedtime!

Made a new friend...? (Well, Rockey isn't trying to kill her for once!)

Off to sleep, one more day of work tomorrow then off for the weekend!

quick update, plus a few photos

Not too much to report today, but Bailey is getting MUCH better outside! I no longer have to drag her to go pee and she walked fairly nicely with me on her leash for walks last night and this morning. We went to the park this morning around 8 and I let her run around with her leash trailing behind for a bit, since it's fenced and we were the only ones there. She has started rolling around in the grass here, which aside from one day at my parents' house I have not seen her do since the day we picked her up at the breeder's. I'm not feeling great today and was running a fever this morning, so we went for our walk and a few pee breaks but spent the whole morning in bed snoozing. She absolutely loves to snuggle with me when I sleep, and even now she is napping on the couch beside me!

She has started to eat her food as soon as I put it down for her, rather than waiting. I've started removing it after about a half hour or 45 minutes, and it's made her bathroom breaks a lot easier to predict!

Here are a few photos!

^^This is what I woke up to this morning^^

"Oh hi mom, you sleeping?"

"I'll keep this warm for you while you're gone, daddy!"

"You can't see me!"

That's all for now!

1st vet visit

Bailey had her first vet appointment today. Overall it went well, they said she is pretty healthy, obviously a happy and loved little girl. Her weight is 7.5lbs. Her one problem is with her ears; she has quite the severe fungal ear infection, but they gave me some ointment to put in her ears twice a day that should clear it up within a week. She goes back for the rest of her needles next Friday, as there were two vaccines she is still too little for. She also had her flea, tick and worm medication, and I got a pill to give her in two weeks time as a booster.

The vet gave me some really good ideas for crate training to keep her content while in there - apparently the best treat ever is a kong filled with canned dog food and put in the freezer! Also, she recommended tiny bits of chicken hot dogs for a housetraining treat. Basically she said it's an awesome treat and smells great to the little puppy nose, but you only have to give her practically nothing and she'll think it's the greatest thing ever. The girls at the counter gave her a few bites of freeze dried chicken, which she went nuts over so much that of COURSE I just had to buy her a bag. Spoiled, I tell you!

She did really well and everyone just LOVED her there. Looks like the vet is one of her new favorite places! Tomorrow's adventure? Bath time!

introduction

I've started this blog to post updates on Bailey, the now 9-week-old beagle puppy. We got her last weekend so it's been almost a week since she came home, and she has already stolen our hearts (and bed).

I decided to keep a blog while Matt is in Kuwait; he left this morning for a 7 month deployment. He's going to miss most of the fun puppy stage, so I'm going to post photos and updates every few days.

We love and miss you already babe! <3
